While cosmopolitan Manila enjoys the reputation of being the Philippines’ arts and culture capital, there is actually a thriving art scene across the archipelago. From the mountain provinces of the north to the sprawling landscapes of the south, various art hubs are emerging as venues for self and community expression.
From June 29-August 1, 2010 ManilArt 10, the country’s biggest visual arts fair, will bring together some of most dynamic art houses from the different regions of the Philippines at the Mall of Asia’s SMX Convention Hall. Some of these regional galleries include Bagiuo’s Tam-awan Village Art Gallery, Bacolod’s Gallery Orange, Cebu’s Art N Nature Gallery, and the Gallery of Davao.
The Tam-awan Village Art Gallery, located in the outskirts of Bagiuo’s bustling city, is an artist’s haven that was envisioned to foster a deeper understanding and respect for the cultural heritage of the Cordillera people. The Tam-awan Village Art Gallery’s roster of visual artists include Leonard Aguinaldo, Ged Alangui, Clinton Aniversario, Ronald Bay-an, John Ronald Belacura, Alfred and Alonzo Dato, Edwin Macadaeg, Jordan Mang-osan, James Gabito, Art Lozano, Jen Lorenzo, Tara Natividad, Patrick Palase, John Frank Sabado and Mark Tandoyog,
Gallery Orange, meanwhile, is the first professionally-run gallery in Negros. Borne out of the creative collaboration between visual artist Charlie Co and businessman-artist Bong Lopue, Gallery Orange hopes to contribute the elevation of art consciousness among members of the Negrense community
Cebu’s Art N' Nature Gallery was established in partnership with Pusod, the Open Organization of Cebu Visual Artists, Inc. in an effort to provide a venue for artists and develop programs that will sustain the local creative community. The fine art gallery is housed in the Art N’ Nature Corporation’s handicrafts complex which also showcases the company’s world-class products. The gallery features works by Cebuano artists Boy Kiamko, Sio Montera, Palme Pe-Tudtud, Eghai Roxa, Karl Roque and Javy Villacin.
Located within the Davao Crocodile Park Complex in the Davao City, Gallery of Davao houses talented artists and beautiful artworks from all over Mindanao. From its inception in 2008, g.o.d. has had major group and solo exhibits by some of the finest Mindanawon visual artists. The gallery is managed by artist/curator Joel Geolamen under the patronage of the Dizon Family of Davao City. Some of the permanent works on display are by renowned surrealist Ben Banez, the late Davao city artists workshop advocate Rachel Holazo and Canada based-Paul Corpuz.
