GUITAR AND PIANO EVENTS OF THE YEAR. The Great Performance Series sponsored by the Philippine American Life Insurance Company and Manila Pavilion Hotel will close with the Manila debut of world-acclaimed classical guitarist Alvaro Pierri on December 4 and the return engagement of Russian pianist Ilya Rashkovskiy on December 8 at the Philamlife Theater, UN Avenue, Ermita, Manila.

A first prize winner of international guitar competitions in Argentina and Brazil and a gold medalist in the 18th International Guitar Competition in Paris, Alvaro Pierri is described by the New York Times as “brilliant, sensitive and breathtaking” and by the Canadian press as “master of colors and a genuine innovator of interpretation.”

A prizewinner of the First Hong Kong International Piano Competition and the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris, Russian pianist Ilya Rashkovskiy was greeted with a rousing standing ovation during his Manila debut last year.
