FLUX

Ronaldo Ruiz
FLUX
3 July 2012
Art Center, 4F SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City

Ronaldo Ruiz presents FLUX at the SM Megamall Art Center on July 3, 2012.  Ruiz continues his explorations in abstraction in FLUX as he unleashes streams and eddies of monochromes that take lives of their own as swirls, circles and splashes harkening to water forms found in nature, seemingly inspired by waves, whirlpools or even sheets of rain. His affinity to water heightens the organic feel of his performative gestures on canvas, action extending to brushstrokes that sweep smooth curves with barely noticeable ripples reminiscent of a still pond in one piece, or crests pulsing with power, like the force of waves crashing, in the next.  These dynamic forms are anchored by dots and dashes posted alone or in gridded patterns with blocks of improvised Cuneiform, technology and human intervention visually securing abstracted current, accentuating instead of hampering its flow.  One of the artist’s recurring themes in most of his twenty-two past exhibitions, that of the high tech conversing with man's natural environment in dissecting discourses on sustainability and conservation, surface anew as lines meander like streams from one square of canvas to another.  The artist will also be showcasing installations  and performance inspired by man’s insatiable thirst for control and order.

Ruiz has been awarded as one of the CCP Thirteen Artists of 2003, was given the UE Achievement and Distinguished Alumnus Awards in 2006 and 2007, the Metrobank Foundation Award for Continuing Excellence and Service (ACES) in 2009, and the Buklod Sininglangan Award for Excellence in the Field of Art in 2011.  He was the Professional Category Grand Prize Winner of the Kunst Filipino and Kunst Gallery Painting Competition 2011, and a two-time winner of the Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards 2000 and 1997. He was also artist in residence at Artesan Gallery+Studio in Singapore and Artspace in Sydney Australia.  Ruiz has exhibited in more than thirty countries, and his works are part of the Singapore and Macau Art Museum collections.

FLUX will open on July 3, 2012, Tuesday, at six o’clock in the evening at the Art Center, located at the 4th Floor of SM Megamall Building A, Mandaluyong City.  Presented by Renaissance Gallery, FLUX’s opening will be highlighted with performances held in confluence with Tupada Tuesdays’ DIGest, an open visual performance event.  The artworks will be displayed up to July 12.  For more details, please contact (632)6373101)
