GRUPO BIAG

Grupo Biag
Juan Luna, Macario Vitalis, Purruganan are all Ilocanos who made a name for themselves in the Filipino art scene in the last few decades.
Last year, a group of artists from Ilocos gathered to form a collective and named themselves Grupo Biag. Biag in Ilocano means LIFE and they are literally bringing life to the arts in Northern Luzon, resurrecting the rich artistic tradition of the Ilocanos. The group is composed of very young men and a woman who have distinguished themselves in local art competitions like the Shell, PLDT, Petron, MetroBank, AAP, GSIS and BSP, a crucible where artists compete with the best talents in the Philippines.
The Silangan Foundation for Arts, Culture and Ecology known in the Philippines and in Asia, as the one which nurtured the beginning of the artistic careers of Elmer Borlongan, Antonio Leano, Manuel Garibay, , John Santos III, Mark Justiniani, and many others in the art collectives, Salingpusa, Sangviaje, continues its mission to be the springboard of the artistic careers of many young artists.
On January 15, 2012 Grupo BIAG will showcase their first group exhibit at the Pinto Art Gallery, at 3:00pm.
Congresswoman Imelda Romualdez Marcos, Vice Governor DV Savellano, Bonito Singson, Mel Andino and many others will attend their maiden show.
Group BIAG is composed of Brave Mabalo Singh, Jeminic Real, Jay Harold Hidalgo, Rionell Victor Rivera, Emerson Rabbon, Efren Sotelo, Pablo Constante Zingapan, Flordeliza Gonzales, Aubrey Terry, Richard Cartie Quebral and Redentor Castillo.

NORTH LIGHT

The northern highlands of Luzon have fascinated travelers and explorers from Europe and the United State for more than a century. Successive expeditions in the mid-19th century brought to the Westsories and pictures of exotic cultures: fierce warriors/headhunters, half-naked maidens adorned with shells, beads and intricate tattoes; hanging coffins; elaborately-beaded hand-woven clothing; lips and teeth made red by the chewing of bunga; tribal feasts; sculptural rice guardians.
Pinto Art Gallery presents a contemporary view of the proud peoples and cultures of these tribes in NORTH LIGHT – paintings of Sagada views by Popo San Pascual, sculpture by Ling Quisumbing Ramilo, photographs of tattoed Kalinga women by Jake Versoza, plates and vases by Sagada potters Tessie Baldo, Siegrid Anne Bangyay, Lope Bosaing and Jessie Degay.
North Light is an appreciation of nature’s bounty and beauty, and its interaction with people that gives life to culture. Traditions begin and die within the frail balance achieved by people taming and sustaining their environment, but beauty, no matter hoe ephemeral, will always be remembered and celebrated.

A PART

Winner Jumalon
“A Part”, a solo show
Pinto Art Gallery, Antipolo
Opens 6 June 2010
This is a graveyard. But the tombstones are not made of stone. No epitaphs honor the dead. Nor are there bodies. Just an expanse of heads and things painted on back-to-back portraits and still lives entirely made of resin. Winner Jumalon takes his portraits out of the gallery to the outdoors—transferring the faces from canvas to sturdy resin, using hard-wearing automotive paint instead of oil or acrylic. Doing thus, the artist fortifies these portraits and still lives, usually fragile against the elements, to render high, exclusive art as public and finally, quite accessible.
A Part opens on the 6th of June, Sunday, 3pm at Pinto Art Gallery in Antipolo City. Pinto Art Gallery is a member of the Silangan Foundation for the Arts, Culture and Ecology. It is located at #1 Sierra Madre St. Grandheights, Antipolo, City. For inquiries you may email us atsilangangardens@yahoo.com or call us at (632) 6971015.

INDIO

Antonio Leaño
Iñdio
Pinto Art Gallery, Antipolo
Opens 31 May 2009
Antonio Leaño showcases his most recent mixed-media works and drawings in Iñdio which opens on May 31 and runs until June 20, 2009 at Pinto Art Gallery, Antipolo City.
As an artist who refuses to be boxed-in, Leaño’s latest exhibit defies expectations and explores yet another mode to express his sensibilities. His deep insight and interest in math, physics, cosmology, architecture and history in combination with his aesthetics result in works that strike a harmonious balance to the eye and the soul. Each carefully chosen visual component merge with each other to make-up a creative whole that is simultaneously intense and subdued.
Leaño blends negative and positive spaces as he fuses figurative and non-figurative representations to orient and even re-orient given perceptions. Aiming to challenge the viewers’ visual acuity and acquiescence, the artist employs imagery from our Spanish colonial past, amalgamated with other archaic elements, while resting in a quiet yet highly textured expanse. This play of contra-positional facets captivates and provokes the senses.
Leaño was a recipient of various awards and distinctions, with a number of notable solo and group exhibitions, both locally and internationally, tucked under his belt. The artist also took part in several residency programs in Japan and Australia. He has a reservoir of experience and discovery to cull from.
Unlike connotations passed, this Iñdio is far from disparaging or deprecating, rather, he is imbued with immense pride and dignity. Antonio Leaño makes sure of that.
Iñdio opens on the 31st of May, Sunday, 3pm at Pinto Art Gallery in Antipolo City . Pinto Art Gallery is a member of the Silangan Foundation for the Arts, Culture and Ecology. It is located at #1 Sierra Madre St. Grandheights, Antipolo, City. For inquiries you may email us at silangangardens@yahoo.com or call us at (632) 6971015.
