Marc Gaba
The Distance Between Color and Light
10 February - 11 March 2009
Simultaneously buoyant and serious, Marc Gaba's paintings in The Distance Between Color and Light were prompted by the challenge of translating pop music into visual spatialities, taking the greater part of such translation as an operation of discerning color, volume and tone. The paintings invent and perform a language of the structural instant.
While refusing the use of human faces as symbols of culture, Gaba explores the fascinations of popular culture (color, spectacle, power, love, excess), to build new images discovered through the act of painting itself.
The Distance Between Color and Light opens on February 10 and will run till March 11.
