Anne E. Wilson
New Installation
20 March - 15 April 2009
Wood, stone, clay, would mostly likely constitute the early phase of construction. Some would have made it to the next phases of weathering, become majestic as they stand still overtime, some would have remained just as ruins. Onto the next phase, it accommodates the sturdy, yet pliant hard projects of glass, steel, cement, and so as it goes on to newer, better, more appropriate materials for the empire building of structures.
Urban centers evidently reveal a large part of this progress in construction. Not only are these structures built to efficiently function but are elaborated by endearing appearances.
Beyond the hard and layered meshes of gray concrete edifices, Ann E. Wilson takes out the urban and industrial focus to the phase of plastic.
The boom of the synthetic age, which encompasses the sturdy, pliant, hard characteristics of material, is being mass consumed into varied forms and is non-reactant to worn-off conditions, the artist explores on the specific use of plastic tubing.
This tactile material is contoured and transformed into sculptural entities, hung and attached to the ceiling, beamed by its colored-fa硤e of furthered function from household and urban platforms to specific and physical representation of these (referred to as) plastic vine forms.
The new installation turns the view of the plastic pipes, as technology and methods arise, linking the gap from putting more effort to less or otherwise, creating a visual metropolis - reproduced in multiples of access and mobility.
New Installations will run till April 15.
