Visual Artist Ferdie Montemayor presents his recent works on canvas in an exhibit entitled Home at the Kaida Gallery from November 18 to December 3. At the heart of Montemayor’s works is the dilemma of Filipinos who leave their homes and families in order to find more rewarding jobs abroad, even if their aspirations may sometimes border on the illusory. The predicament of material sufficiency and spiritual displacement is acutely rendered in Montemayor’s works. His paintings perform a remembrance that tries to capture all: pain and joy, harmony and dislocation, togetherness and distance.
Home includes large and medium scale works of city life and figures, painted in red tones and in black and white on acrylic and oil on canvases.
Montemayor studied painting from the University of the Philippines. He is a grand prize winner of the 1992 Metrobank Foundation National Painting Competition, recipient of the prestigious Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1994 and an awardee for Metrobank ACES Awards for Continuing Excellence and Services in 2004.
