Artis Corpus Gallery
Simply in the business of promoting Philippine Art and Filipino Artists.
Artis Corpus Gallery was established in November 2008 as a visual art venue in Mandaluyong City. In its first ten months, the gallery mounted five major solo exhibitions featuring Jun and Elrine Vicaldo, Trek Valdizno, Orville Tiamson, Ryan Rubio, and Emmanuel Garibay, as well as five thematic group shows: Bata ng Sining, Recurring Fancies, Earth Haven, Subtle Indiscretion, and the now legendary Rosa Negra. In July 2009, Artis Corpus Gallery was invited to join ManilArt09.
Natural occurrences withstanding, Artis Corpus continued in its Mandaluyong space with a participation in the experimental Art Manila and the prestigious Ateneo Art Auction in October 2009. Thereafter, it mounted another four solo exhibitions featuring Norman Dreo, Grandier Bella, Camille De La Rosa, and Anthony Panugao in the last two months of 2009. Artis Corpus opened 2010 with a couple of two-man shows: Paradigm with Averil Paras and Kris Jan Gavino and Paglaom with Ronald Jeresano and Jeffrey Salon. Its last show in this Ondoy-torn venue was the fateful Fortuna: Imperatrix Mundi, viewed as a farewell exhibition closing the Mandaluyong artspace.
During this transitional phase, Artis Corpus participated in the highly successful Asian Cultural Council Art Auction and Art in the Park in February 2010. It also joined forces with Art Cabinet in setting up the Picasso Art Program Ed.2 in March to May of this year.
Sining Kamalig: an art gallery literally adopted Artis Corpus Gallery by offering its Inner Room as its new venue. Since April 2010, Artis Corpus has mounted three group shows: Hot Air Balloon (featuring TUP and FEU artists), Play Faculty (featuring UP artists), and Pitong Salita (featuring UST artists).
In summary, the first 18 months of Artis Corpus Gallery was filled with 20 inhouse exhibitions featuring some of the Philippines’ more important artists including Neil Manalo, Elmer Borlongan, Nunelucio Alvarado, Lindslee, Jerusalino and Julian Araos, Julmard Vicente, Randalf Dilla, Popo San Pascual, Thomas Daquioag, Welbart, among some 90 Filipino artists. It has also participated in eight public events including art auctions and art fairs during this period.
Artis Corpus Gallery continues operations and joins ManilArt10 in July of this year. A series of exhibitions and participation in public events such as the Ateneo Art Auction in October are scheduled for the second half of the year.
Artis Corpus Gallery stands committed to its mission of promoting Philippine art and Filipino artists.
Written for ManilArt10, 25 June 2010.
