French artist Henri Eteve has been living in this country for the past forty four years, and the Philippines has become a great muse for him. “This French is Pinoy! Henri Eteve’s artventure in the Philippines”, will showcase a selection of striking and colorful paintings, sculpture, digital and object d’art will be drawing on his 40 productive and interesting years of living in the Philippines.
Eteve who signs his works Di Miliora (for the better) was born in 1942 in Paris France. At the age of 18, he joined the French Foreign Legion and saw action in Algeria. Thereafter, he was living in Spain, the UK, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan, then India, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia and Malaysia as an itinerant traveler. In 1966, he turned up in the Philippines and took up residence in Manila and was quickly absorbed in the bohemian world of the city at its twilight and on the eve of Martial Law. His experiences reveal his involvement in Philippine art history of that period that needs to be further explored and understood.
“This French is Pinoy! Henri Eteve’s artventure in the Philippines” is part of a simultaneous three-venue exhibition program. Eteve will also be the featured artist at the Total Gallery of Alliance Francaise in Manila from July 6 to 29, 2010 and in La Galerie of Alliance Francaise de Cebu from July 23 to September 30, 2010 with each venue having its own theme.
