One Man Art Show
Featuring Tony Alcasid
July 8, 2009
Ricco Renzo Galleries/Caffe
“The Many Phases of Love”
Antonio Jose L. Alcasid, born on July 8, did not have any formal training in the arts until he met Gerry Ingco at the Ricco Renzo Galleries where, aside from learning the technical side of using various mediums and materials, he also learned how to give focus and direction to his work. Although his basic training was to be in business, he has always secretly loved the arts. His parents dissuaded him from taking a course in the arts because they own a rural bank in the beautiful town of Taal, Batangas. Tony got his degree in Business Administration majoring in Marketing Management from the U.P., but chose higher humanities courses for all his free electives.
He moved to Los Angeles, California to take his MBA at the University of Southern California. To relax from the fast-paced Hollywood lifestyle, he started painting with acrylics and drew with technical pens. He visited art galleries and museums in Los Angeles and New York, enjoyed the art stores and their merchandise.
For his second one man show, Tony Alcasid interprets on canvas 15 original compositions of his popular, talented and multi-awarded songwriter-singer brother, Ogie Alcasid. Canvases layered with highly textured backgrounds sought to capture in a somewhat abstract fashion through washes of colors and images the emotions, ideas, feelings, stories and lessons expressed in each song. Some of the works are also assemblages of found objects and others are collages with cutouts from other print media to add nuance and/or visual impact/interest.
The event then becomes a multi-media collaboration of the artist brothers through their respective mediums of creative expression. It also gains additional significance as Tony celebrates his 50th birthday, which is, indeed, an extremely appropriate and worthy milestone to mark this event with his second one-man show at the Ricco Renzo Galleries/Caffe.
The Ogie Alcasid songs that were interpreted are: Hanggang Ngayon, Sana, Ikaw Lamang, Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala, Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka, Nandito Ako, Sa Kanya, Sa Piling Mo, Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang, Tanging Ikaw, Kailangan Kita, Ikaw Sana, Kung Sakali, Kung Mawawala Ka, Hindi Ko Na Kayang Masaktan.
The Many Phases of Love opens on July 8,2009, Wednesday, 6:00pm at Ricco Renzo Galleries & Caffe. Exhibit runs till August 5,2009. Please visit www.riccorenzo.com or call Kaye Nuguid at 898-2545 or mobile 0927-3244013 for more information. Ricco Renzo is at LRI Design Plaza, 210 N. Garcia St. Makati City.
