Renaissance Gallery is presenting Mixedtasy, an exhibition of works by Buds Convocar, Omi Reyes, and Aner Sebastian from September 19th through September 30th. Mixedtasy is a collection of new works that highlight mixed media as more than just technique. Each of the artworks on view explores the processes of construction and deconstruction, appropriation , transformation and reinvention in art though the use of mixed media.
Buds Convocar, the current president of the Art Association of the Philippines, has long been into the use of mixed media as vehicle to express his art, or his fantasies, if you will, of future, uber-technological landscapes. His impulse is to create a simulation of structure and form. "It is a technique and process that I am most at home with, and I'm glad that my artist friends share the same joy, the same enthusiasm with me, especially in their preparation for this show," he says.
Aner Sebastian, who renders imagined landscapes of forests and oceans in vivid colors this time employs the use of found objects to enhance his works. "I find it interesting to include the process of re-purposing found objects into usable means of expression.Mixed media adds texture, yes, but more importantly, it enhances my own artistic process, and well as adds interest to the art as object, he says.
Omi Reyes finds the twin processes of construction and deconstruction the most challenging and fulfilling to him as an artist. "Employing mixed media makes the artwork three times more difficult," he says, but he finds that he is at his best when using mixed media. Even the choosing of what stray machine parts, or the reshaping of wood to conform to his vision gives him an creative high that is otherwise absent when he does straightforward paintings." I find both the process and the results are more to my liking."
Renaissance Gallery is located at the 4th floor of Megamall in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong.
