River of Our Dreams
Frankie Callaghan
3 Oct – 24 Oct 2010
Manila Contemporary
In the solo exhibition, River of Our Dreams, photographer Frankie Callaghan breaks away from the allure of urban landscapes and focuses his lens on the elusive beauty of the Pasig River. While Callaghan has done extensive work on the river’s locale, as seen in his previous exhibition called Dwelling, he has only now taken the famed river as a subject. Appropriated from a slogan on a bridge traversing the river, the title speaks of a mysterious fusion of past, present and future - recollections of its glorious past mingling with visions of its future potential, both of which congeal around the city and population that grew up with the Pasig River. River of Our Dreams is a visual re-examination of a cultural landmark that has escaped corrective action, but has, for the most part, been revered for its inexplicable beauty.
The exhibition timely foregrounds A Run for Pasig River 10.10.10 (http://101010runforpasigriver.com/), a massive rehabilitation effort that calls on 120,000 runners from different sectors such as government offices, schools, business corporations, and many more to come together and rally for the river.
River of Our Dreams opens to the public on Sunday, 3 October 2010 and will run until 24 October 2010. Manila Contemporary is located at Whitespace, 2314 Pasong Tamo Extension, Brgy. Magallanes, Makati City. For inquiries about the exhibition, please contact David at 844 7328 or email to d.loughran@manilacontemporary.com
