Romulo Galicano's latest Gesamkunstwerk tackles a timely event in Philippine cultural and social life. Siete de Agosto: Allegory of a Farce is an elegant critique of the death of integrity in the process of determining the National Artist Awards (NAA) due to executive interference, and symbolized by the demonstration of the art community in front of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) on August 7, 2009. It is this event that Galicano has magisterially captured in allegorical form that captures both the pathos and farcical vanity in search for artistic nobility that haunts the system and its players today.
