Seven Propositions for the Future of Abstraction
An exhibit of propositions, not declarations, in the form of paintings and video art “Seven Propositions for the Future of Abstraction” began with the assumption that a century since its ground-breaking inception, abstract art has mostly turned into a functionally decorative object at the level of design, but develops at the level of art.
Each artist was entasked either to create a work that might propositionally counteract the dissipation of the power of abstraction as an image or as art - or to push what he or she has been doing as far as it could be pushed during this moment in his or her artistic practice. The works exhibited are therefore intended to be read as non-representative directions of individual artists, with an unpredictable cumulative statement.
The show features works by Argie Bandoy, Marc Gaba, Irma Lacorte, Bernardo Pacquing, Sandra Palomar, Christina Quisumbing Ramilo and Jun Sabayton.
