A TWO-MAN SHOW BY MAC VALDEZCO AND EUGENE JARQUE
Mac Valdezco and Eugene Jarque challenge the persistence of time in their second two-man show, “Everything is Temporary.”
Valdezco’s biomorphic forms assume the shapes of nature: branches extend ominously, states of matter cycle, a body occurs and recurs as both whole and sum of its parts. In their spontaneous evolution, the original dimensions of paper, cloth strips and cotton tape disappear into plots of interconnected cells.
Jarque’s aluminum geometric structures, on the other hand, galvanize utilitarian fragments of the physical and social worlds. Layers of acrylic, aerosol paint, canvas, rusted and metal aluminum render solid figures, dimensions of which are derived from manmade objects.
Each half – Valdezco’s assemblage and Jarque’s mixed media construction – delineates the natural world as purely organic matter.
Against the brutality of time and remembrance, the artists layer collected memories and ethereal philosophies; weave quiet introspections and personal histories. Liberating the creation of art from the rules of preservation, Valdezco and Jarque embrace the transcendence of art’s spirit-nature, as a soul separates from the body upon death.
The artists take flight on the fullness of the present time and their inherent, unyielding desire to create. Creativity unbound, their philosophy challenges the notion of art that is created for longevity. Adopting the changing beauty of nature – that which cannot be preserved within time but enjoyed anew with each season – Valdezco and Jarque recognize the existence of lifetimes in the act of creation, a single, fleeting moment.
“Everything is Temporary” opens on Saturday, 6PM 16 May 2009 and will run until 6 June 2009 at the Blanc Compound, 359 Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City. Gallery hours are from 10am – 8pm, Mondays thru Sundays. For further enquiries, please call telephone numbers 752 0032 or 0920 927 6436.
