The country’s top artists will be holding a series of live sketching sessions every Saturday at Mercato Centrale, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig as a prelude to the ManilART 2011, the largest annual art gathering of galleries in the country featuring the top Philippine artists. The artworks are immediately put on sale and are sold at affordable art prices.
Launched last Saturday at Mercato, the sketching session drew favorable feedback from both art enthusiasts and marketgoers who had the opporunity to watch the artists at work. The participating artists also enjoyed their interaction with the market goers as they sketched the still life subjects en plen air. The session yielded varied interpretations in watercolor, pastel and oil done by top artists Angel Cacnio, Edgar Doctor, Nemiranda, Caloy Gabuco, Al Perez, Raul Isidro, Jun Martinez, Cee Cadid, Rudolph Gonzales and Omi Reyes.
In response to the clamor for a follow-up, most of the artists will be returning this weekend for a session with live models. The art works shall also go on sale at very attractive prices, starting below five thousand pesos. The live sketching series is among the activities that serve as prelude to the ManilART exhibition proper which will run from August 25 to 27 at the NBC Tent, Bonifacio Global City. Now on its third year, ManilART is a world class art fair that seeks to draw local and international audiences alike.
Sketching sessions will be held every Saturday until August 21 at the Mercato Centrale, located at the corner of 34th street and 8th avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, beside MC Home Depot. Aside from invitational sessions, there will also be sessions open to the public.
