Altro Mondo presents “Anti-Hero,” a group exhibition featuring seventeen talented young artists including LJ Ablola, Nemo Aguila, Tyago Almario, Bjorn Calleja, Ernest Concepcion, Jigger Cruz, Olivia Cruz, Don Dalmacio, BJ Esber, Edric Go, David Lock, Jason Montinola, Epjey Pacheco, Kaloy Sanchez, Luis Antonio Santos, CJ Tañedo and R.A. Tijing
In “Anti-Hero,” these young artists tackle our perceptions of heroism and villainy as well as the processes of heterodoxy and veneration that underwrite the creation of champions, rogues, and idols. Seeking to understand the way in which people, issues and events are framed by different groups and institutions in order to either create, supplant or reaffirm the notions of virtue and morality that guide our ways of life, the works in this exhibition attempt to tackle these processes of framing and consecration as a vital historical facet to our adulation of heroic representations and as something that is also deeply embedded in the practice of image-making.
The exhibition opens on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 6pm in AltroMondo Gallery located on the 3rd floor of Greenbelt 5 at the Ayala Center. The show runs until September 6, 2011.
