On August 24-27, 2011, Manila will house MANILART 2011, the country’s biggest gathering of art galleries. Works are set to be diverse and vibrant, with exhibitors not only showcasing the works of artists they represent, but a conceptualize an exhibit as well just for the forum.
In 2009, Onib Olmedo’s iconic jeepney painting served as the image of the first ManilArt while Andres Barrioquinto’s “Crystal Gazer” was the face of last year’s art fair. This year, ManilArt shall be graced by Elmer Borlongan’s “Batang Edsa” which shall also be translated into modern dance during the launching gala by premiere contemporary dance maven and Dance Forum founder, Myra Beltran. Aside from the various lectures, performances, and public sketching sessions, award-winning poet, fictionist, playwright, and essayist Vim Nadera shall give a talk titled “Visuals on Rizal Today” in commemoration of National Hero Jose Rizal’s 150th birth anniversary.
Exhibitiors include, Manila Contemporary, Silverlens Gallery, Blanc Art Space, and West Gallery, to name a few. The goal here is art appreciation and education, as well as discovery of new and emerging artists within the region. Some of these guys have sold really well in ArtHK’11 this year.
