Imelda Marcos to see controversial artwork at CCP

MANILA, Philippines – Former first lady and Congresswoman Imelda Marcos will visit the Cultural Center of the Philippines within the day to see for herself the controversial artwork by Mideo Cruz, she told 990AM in an interview Monday.
Marcos said that such sacrilegious artwork has no room in the CCP which was created with the vision of being “a monument to the Filipino spirit… [or a] sanctuary to the Filipino soul.”
She said that she was told of “human rights… freedom of the arts” when she called the CCP but stated that it was wrong to exhibit artwork that may hurt or offend people, and desecrate beliefs.
The Ilocos Norte representative plans to drop by the CCP before going to Congress later this Monday.
Cruz’s art exhibit “Polytheism”, which has been part of an exhibit since June 17 and will be on display until August 21, has drawn criticism from bishops and lay groups.
A letter demanding that the exhibit, which features the works of Cruz and 30 otherr artists, be closed was sent to CCP president Raul Sunico last week.
