The subject of identity covers such a wide spectrum that it is virtually impossible to have a clear-cut view of an individual’s singularity.
What I am showing is a visual documentation of my reactions to the physical, mental and emotional environments as triggered by my physical location, which in this is case is of the Philippines, and of late, Negros, where I have roots as well.
My artworks start out as low resolution photographs taken with available light using an old cell phone, and readjusted digitally to form the foundation from which the final artworks are created. The works evolve spontaneously, as I digitally paint and draw over the images using the track pad of my laptop.
Some pictures are used solely as layers for texture, form or color; while others retain the primary appearance or are used as sources of elements that I pull out as needed.
The process fuses my visual singularity with the plurality of the stories as influenced by memory, religion, culture, history, sexuality or social standing for example. All the flipsides of the artworks have the silhouette of the posterior view of my head, as I relate these from my point of view of 300 images.
